Josef Garvi (Zinder, Niger) is an expert in food production from forgotten dryland trees and their value chain development. Having grown up in Niger in the Sahel, he had the opportunity of becoming deeply familiar with the social, economic and environmental challenges facing people living in the countryside there. He also had the opportunity of learning about the amazing potential of the various wild perennials growing in the area. He heads Sahara Sahel Foods, a social enterprise working to bring native tree foods back into mainstream consumption. In his free time, he is a passionate programmer and a monkey lover.
